Summer might be coming to an end but there’s more than enough time to savour a Blackberry Mojito before we begin to indulge in warming wintery whiskey and deep red wines.
The Mojito would have to be the most popular cocktails to have come out of Cuba. By adding blackberry’s I guess it makes it health…right? The inclusion of blackberry’s adds an extra layer of tart sweetness to this beverage, making it even more of an easier tipple to consume.
RECIPE
Ingredients: Serves 2
8 large mint leaves.
½ cup of fresh Blackberries.
4 Teaspoons of sugar.
½ cup of white rum (or vodka).
1 fresh lime.
1 cup of soda water.
2 Handfuls of crushed ice.
Method:
Place Blackberries and 6 mint leave in cocktail shaker together with sugar and muddle with either a wooden spoon or your muddler. Don’t over muddle and crush the berries as they’ll release a bitterness that overtakes the flavour.
Add vodka or rum, 1 handful crushed ice and ¼ cup fresh lime juice into a shaker together with your muddled berries and mint. Shake for 15 seconds to help chill well.
Fill your serving glass with a handful of crushed ice cubes and strained mixture into glass.
Top with soda water in each glass, garnish with remaining mint leaves and a slice of fresh lime.
