If there is one place that always seems to have the sun shining in all its glory, it would have to be the Gold Coast. Having spent a bit of time up there recently for work and play, the weather is seriously next level. Blue skies and warm water makes winter pretty much non-existent. With all that soft sun, the café scene stretches up and down the coast, so I thought I’d share just a few spots that I stopped into while I was in town.
LITTLE MERMAID CAFE
Located in Mermaid Beach, the décor of this space but pretty cool. An inviting cafe decked out in a rustic vintage beachy vibe, serves up your traditional Eggs Benedict, Mushroom Halloumi Stack and of course Smashed Avo on toast. Known for its ‘white insta wall’, you’ll find the locals grabbing a snap for a post on the white brick wall with coffee in hand.
BEACHES OFF TEDDER
Just behind the main drag ofTedder Avenue in the suburb of Main Beach, opposite the sandy shores is a place with great coffee. Main Beach has long been know as the up-market end of town on the Gold Coast with premium property and pricy cars moving about. A relaxed space that’s both a bar and café from morning till afternoon, delivered a delish Breakfast Bruschetta – avocado, bacon, 2 poached eggs, bruschetta mix, on toasted sourdough.
BLACKSMITH ON MAIN
Keeping in the suburb of Main Beach, much of where I spent my time while on the Gold Coast, Blacksmith on Main located on Tedder Avenue, plated up one of the best ‘Smashed Avos’ on toast I’ve had to date. A simple dish that if not dressed well can be bland, but the flavour layers added with the ripe cherry tomatoes, crushed nuts and a drizzle of balsamic made for a great start to the day.
CREMA ESPRESSO
Getting the right Eggs Benedict can be a tough task. The egg yolk needs to be just right and the hollandaise sauce should compliment the dish not overtake. Crema Espresso did a great job. Quick in service with good coffee, located on Tedder Avenue also in Main Beach, it was a fuss-free breakie that hit the spot.
Stay dapper gents.
