Paris would have to be one of the most beautiful cities. Its been a few years since my visit and most definitely one I’d return to in a heartbeat. From stunning architecture to the birthplace of Louis Vuitton, a new structural marvel has been unveiled with the opening of Louis Vuitton’s new store at No. 2, Place Vendôme, Paris.
Taking you back to 1854, this is the place where Mr Vuitton opened his first store. On the 4th of October, Louis Vuitton opened the doors to the newly designed and refurbished grounds of the Maisons original beginning over 160 years ago.
New York-based architect Peter Marino was enlisted to carefully return the grounds to its original glory. Housed in two hotels, The Maison Louis Vuitton Vendôme’s aesthetics are described as “a subtle blend of neo-classical proportions and contemporary forms, traditional materials and innovative techniques, rich details and stunning artworks”.
“The Place Vendôme – just like the Château of Versailles – is one of the most beautiful examples of French artistry of the 17th-century. As the worthy heir to this tradition, it was only natural for Louis Vuitton to establish workshops and showcase its creations at the heart of Place Vendôme, thus ensuring that the legacy continues for future generations. It marks the House’s grand return to the neighbourhood”.
This particular part of Paris, Place Vendôme, has been home to fashion, travel goods and jewellery for more than 300 years and the two hotels that now house Louis Vuitton have seen nobles, aristocracy and Napoléon III walk these floors.
Designing spaces that have merged old and new, architect Peter Marino used glass, light-coloured stone, artisanal wall coverings, as well as parquet and stone flooring returning them to their former splendour. Ceiling heights of almost 5 meters on the first-floor project stateliness and French artistry.
The opening also saw the release of three fine jewellery sets specially created by the two working ateliers located on site, The Haute Joaillerie atelier. These ateliers will continue to craft the House’s most exclusive and high-end jewellery lines for the brands most esteemed clients.
As the House of Louis Vuitton continues its legacy, so does the incredible pieces it produces.
Stay dapper gents.
