When you reach rock star status, the right set of wheels should match your stardom. And when you’re part of one of the most iconic bands the choice of Sir Paul McCartney’s was a 1964 Aston Martin. The vintage DB5 formerly Owen by McCartney had an estimated value of around AUD $2.3 million when it when under the hammer at Bonhams Bond Street in London.
A prized set of wheels like this are rare and highly sought after but when you add a Beatle to the cars history the value is exponential. With the classic Bond silver and a red interior, McCartney had originally purchased the relic in Sierra Blue with black interior. Having had it restored to like-new condition, its new owner has a slice of music and automotive history parked in their garage.
If you’re as cool as Sir Ringo Starr, then a 1966 Mini Cooper will be your run-around. The Mini Cooper ‘S’ Radford Conversion with its estimated value of approx AUD $180,000 was modified to lug his drum kit and converted to a hatchback by coach-builders Harold Radford and Hooper & Co for Starr.
Beyond the yellow brick road you might find Sir Elton John’s vintage Bentley. A 1956 S1 Continental Sport Saloon purchased in 1976 by the singer-songwriter who held onto it for 25 years before recently going to auction with an estimated value of AUD $793,000. The two-door, 5 seater could reach a top speed of 193 kilometres per hour with Elton being quotes as saying it’s “the most beautiful car, I think, that’s ever been designed.”
Stay dapper gents.
