Being a Sydney-sider, among a few things both Sydney and Melbourne have in common, is our passion for great food, fashion and killer coffee. One of the best things about heading down south is I know I’m almost guaranteed a great coffee every time. They take their brew seriously, so it’s no wonder even the mediocre to some is still great to many.
While in town for fashion week MSFW, it’s a few days of early rises and late nights, so with each morning (and throughout the day), my thoughts are on a brilliant brew. So with that, I thought I’d share five places I came across that satisfied.
BRIOCHE BY PHILIP
Location: 500 Little Collins Street, Melbourne CBD.
If artisan pastries with coffee are your thing, Brioche By Philip will keep you satisfied. An unassuming small corner location on Little Collins Street, I came across it while walking the streets of Melbourne for a spot of shopping and grabbed one-to-go; it delivered the perfect kick.
BOWERY TO WILLIAMSBURG
Location: 16 Oliver Lane, Melbourne CBD.
Channelling the vide of New York, Bowery to Williamsburg is a cool spot stepped down a small cobbled street of Oliver Lane, just off Flinders Street in the CBD. What better NYC inspired dish to accompany coffee?…berry waffles. And yep, it was delish.
SELF PRESERVATION
Location: 70 Bourke Street, Melbourne CBD.
A café combining art, jewellery and food is a winning combo. At the top end of Bourke Street, a chic and chilled little café, the window display of pastries is enough to pull you in. Once you are in, the ladies might like head down to the back end of the space, where they’ll find the jewels, literally. Cabinets of jewellery on displayed and available to purchase, while the gents can admire the walls occupied by artwork which you can also buy.
WHITE MOJO
Location: 115 Hardware Street, Melbourne CBD.
Now I have to say, it’s not a traditional latte. The Matcha Latte doesn’t have actual coffee grind; it’s your green infused hit of goodness packed with antioxidants, that’s frothed and spun with milk just as a latte. Definitely, a different taste and one for you to try at least once. If you don’t head there for the green potion, then be sure to savour the great menu; the Nutella filled doughnut is one fine pastry I had to try, but the soft shell crab croissant burger with chipotle mayo is on my list for the next time I’m in town. The modern and minimalist decor is also a great spot for those how do like to share a pic or two on social with their marble tables perfect for that #foodflatlay 🙂
CORNER & BENCH
Location: 408 Bourke Street, Melbourne CBD.
An unpretentious café just at the beginning / top end of Hardware Lane and Burke Street, on my first pop in, it was a take coffee that went down a treat. Located close to my accommodation, the next day having a little time to spare, the pulled pork tacos where the choice and are a thumbs up.
If you’re a lover of coffee then Melbourne will have you covered, and if any of these spot cross your path while you’re in town, be sure to check them out and savour these spots the next time your in town.
