Making waves in sleek style with the new Lexus Sports Yacht. Lexus long known for delivering luxury standards in four-wheeled engineering, launched its first concept yacht last week cursing on the U.S sores of Miami.
The 42-foot Lexus Sport Yacht holds two V8 gasoline engines with 950 horsepower and hits speeds of 49 miles per hour. Powered by the same engine in the new LC 500 coupe, the turbo boost option allows an extra 1000 rpm over its rev limit for that extra kick of speed.
The idea for a luxury Lexus yacht was sparked two years ago when the president of Toyota, Akio Toyoda, tested a suite of premium yacht’s, which had him thinking of “how Lexus design language could be applied to a maritime lifestyle”.
Cased in carbon fibre making it 998 kilograms lighter than similar yachts and styled by the Lexus designer team, it’s engineered by the Toyota Marine Department and built by Marquis Yachts of Pulaski. This concept yacht by Lexus is a one-off and is said to be testing the waters of the markets demand while also promoting the “Lexus lifestyle.”
With a sleek design “the lines of the boat are never interrupted,” said Yoshira Yoshihiro Sawa, the head of design at Lexus. “They just flow from one end to the other.”
Italian crafted cabinetry and upholstery, it also features marble-like hand painted glass panels. Josh Delforge vice president of design at Marquis Yachts said “no boat this size has ever had anything resembling the complexity of this yacht…It’s touchscreen everything, so all systems can also be controlled by an iPad. You’d find this same type of system on a custom superyacht.”
Bring on board your eight close mates (maximum passenger capacity), while you whip up a small dish with the on board kitchen, grab a beverage from the fridge and take a rinse-off after your dip in the sea with the on board shower. Leave your sleepwear at home as this machine isn’t designed for sleep-over’s and doesn’t house a bedding area.
There’s no set plans on releasing it to the mass market any time soon so we will just have to appreciate the imagery for now.
