Back in the day where a toothbrush and Colgate toothpaste weren’t readily accessible (not quite invented yet), scurvy ran through the mouths of sailors. So the solution? Alcohol of course.
When sailors began to skip their daily dose of biting into a lime, lemon or orange wedge for their vitamin C intake, along came The Gimlet. It was created as a preventative measure, in an easy to drink concoction to keep scurvy at bay. Soon enough encouragement wasn’t needed, as this mixture is now a treat on today’s cocktail lists.
